Hi Product Hunt! I'm the maker of Teiji-Tango 👋
The name means "leaving work on time" in Japanese — and the rules reflect that: you can't have three 👔 (work) in a row, and you can't have three 🍺 (beer) in a row. Balance is everything.
**Why no backend?**
Today's puzzle is just `Math.floor((Date.now() - START_DATE) / 86400000) % pool.length`. Fully deterministic. I was inspired by the original Wordle being a static site.
**The interesting technical part:**
I built a constraint-based solver with 9 deduction patterns to validate that every puzzle is solvable by logic alone — no guessing. Generating 450+ valid puzzles across 5 modes and 3 difficulties took more iteration than expected.
**5 modes:**
- Standard (classic Tango rules)
- 🧱 Walls — thick borders break the three-in-a-row chains
- 🗂️ Regions — 6 sectors, each must also balance
- ✕ X-Tango — both diagonals get the same constraints (14 lines simultaneously)
- 🔪 Killer — Killer Sudoku style, blank grid, cage sums tell you how many 🍺
Currently 2 modes are live (Standard + Walls). 3 more modes — Regions, X-Tango, and Killer — are unlocking over the next 6 weeks.
