This product is not from Google. Why is it named 'Google uProxy'?
Suresh Sivasankaran
@saifalfalah please check this link https://jigsaw.google.com/projec... to find more details about the project. It's a project developed by people at Google Ideas and University of Washington. Google Ideas also works on several other projects and challenges like conversation AI, Project Shield etc... You can check those projects on https://jigsaw.google.com/projects/

@suresh_sivasankaran Thanks Suresh. Now it's clear.

@suresh_sivasankaran @saifalfalah that page makes it clear it is not a Google project, "uProxy, seeded by Jigsaw and owned by the University of Washington".

Cool Stuff 😎 And to the debate over the brand, it is actually a google product. Here is the official mouthpiece. http://mashable.com/2013/10/21/g... World would be great if we start enjoying the products released in PH and contribute positively to the community than doing anything else !

So now ProductHunt doesn't moderate hunt submissions? This is not a Google Product... How come it is listed as so? Don't you see that Google behind any name is multiple steps closer to multitudes of people installing confidently without checking?! Damn... And I'm not able to downvote this!

@dafonso it's seeded by Jigsaw which is affiliated with Google but it's owned by the University of Washington. It's even called Google uProxy in their own press release, check out the second Get link.

@suresh_sivasankaran I think your comment was for the the person I replied to.
Suresh Sivasankaran
@eightbitjoker Yeah! Changed :)

@suresh_sivasankaran Nevertheless, the name of the product isn't 'Google uProxy'. Google's affiliation is mentioned nowhere on the site. Google's involvement (in 2013 when it was first announced) isn't enough to label this as 'Google uProxy', as this implies a much stronger correlation. Google's employees no doubt work on wide number of side projects, this doesn't make them officially branded Google products. I think it would be less confusing is entry were just renamed to 'uProxy'.

uProxy is an open source browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that lets users share their route to the Internet with each other. uProxy can make it much harder for a third party to monitor or interfere with the traffic of the user who is getting access. It’s like a personalised VPN service that you can use to provide secure access to friends and family, and to yourself when you travel. cc @nivo0o0 @rrhoover @bentossell

An interesting and worthy hunt. Security enhanced.

Anyone else having issues loading the webpage? Only displays the images and there's nothing to actually click on
Kelly Kuhn-Wallace
@jfourcher Same. Going to try again. There's nothing else on the market or even close to being ready (that I know of -- ) of this level.
Vignesh Venkateswaran
An interesting product
