Cool idea. What's the read on newsstand publishing these days? It definitely doesn't register in my mind when I think about a content project - blog, newsletter, ebook all come to mind first. What are the benefits of newsstand?
Good luck!
I've started a Newsstand Publishing platform.
The platform is called www.Uninkd.com and what it does, is to take away the whole technical aspect of releasing a Newsstand Magazine, so all you have to worry about is creating good content.
The product is still young and I'd love some feedback on things. Let me know if you have any questions.
Welcome, @HolgerSindbaek! Uninkd looks beautiful. @hnshah shared a similar idea with me several months ago (not sure how much he wants to share). I'm going to play around with it and see if it's a good fit for Startup Edition.
Holger- How are you going to get customers?
Good to hear @rrhoover. Let me know if you have any questions. And, as always, I love feedback, so if you have some, then let me know.
There are interesting "Web Magazines" popping up everywhere - www.TheAlpineReview.com - www.FirstRound.com/review - www.Polygon.com - so we are writing a lot of these guys.
We are also writing bloggers and writers. People who create quality content, but don't have a chance to monetize it yet.
But in general, it is a bit hard. People aren't used to Newsstand Publishing yet. I think it's turning around though. We'll see what the future holds.
@dshan Thanks for asking.
Concerning content, blogs/articles/newsletters are probably what is most similar to the content you'd see in a Newsstand Magazine. From a content creators perspective, the biggest advantage Newsstand content has over the above-mentioned, is that you can monetize a Newsstand Magazine. And the way you monetize it is also great, because it's mostly subscription-based, so the revenue a Newsstand Magazine generates is relatively stable.
From a users perspective, Newsstand content is always up to date. When new content is available, it downloads in the background, without you even knowing, so when you are sitting in the train without an internet connection, you can still read the latest issue of whatever magazine you are subscribing to.
@dshan Does that make sense?
@HolgerSindbaek - AFAIK, you don't provide a way for people to discover or cross-promote with other publications using your platform. What are your thoughts on this and is this something you plan to do?
Right now, people can share articles on Twitter and Facebook, from within the newsstand magazine.
That'll link to an online version of that specific article, so friends can read it and get enticed to download the whole magazine.
But we don't provide any way to cross promote with other publications.
@rrhoover Are you thinking of something specific?!
