Hey Product Hunt!
One of the hardest decisions when building TranscriptAny was figuring out what to charge for and what to keep free.
Here's exactly how we split it:
Free forever:
Unlimited transcripts from any URL
YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook & X
Full transcript on screen
Copy to clipboard
Download .txt with timestamps
Download .srt subtitle file
50+ languages
How does it handle videos with heavy background noise or overlapping speakers, does the accuracy hold up there or is it mainly optimized for clean dialogue?
@hiranurldpa
Great question! Honestly, it depends on the source of the transcript.
For YouTube videos, we extract the official captions directly — so accuracy is 100% dependent on what YouTube provides, not our processing. If the creator added manual captions, they're perfect. Auto-generated captions from YouTube can struggle with heavy background noise or multiple speakers, just like any ASR system.
For file uploads (MP4, MP3, WAV), we use Groq Whisper AI — which is one of the most robust speech-to-text models available. Whisper was specifically trained on diverse audio conditions including noisy environments and overlapping speech. It handles these significantly better than older ASR systems, though no AI is perfect with extreme noise or heavily overlapping speakers.
For TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X videos, we use the Supadata API, which also leverages Whisper under the hood.
So the short answer: clean dialogue = near-perfect accuracy. Heavy background noise = still very good with Whisper, but you may see some errors. Multiple overlapping speakers = the hardest case for any transcription tool, ours included.
We're always looking at ways to improve — speaker diarization (identifying who said what) is on our radar for a future update! 🎙️
Pasted in a long YouTube interview and got the full transcript in under a minute, including the summary written in actual English. Honestly expected the free tier to be basically useless but five real transcripts is enough for me.
@zekiuds1
This made my day, thank you! 🙏
That's exactly what I was going for — most "free" tools give you 30 seconds or a watermarked mess. I wanted the free tier to actually be useful, not just a teaser.
Really glad the summary came through in natural language too — that's Claude AI doing the heavy lifting there, and it makes a big difference vs tools that just bullet-point the first few sentences.
If you ever hit the 3/day summary limit and need more, the Pro plan is coming soon — but honestly, for most use cases 3 a day covers it. Enjoy! 🎉
How does it handle long videos like hour long podcasts or does it cap the length for the free tier
@yusufsrbudgwtk
Great question! 👋
No cap on length for free users — TranscriptAny handles videos of any length. We've tested it on 4+ hour videos, and it works great.
Here's how it works for long videos:
For YouTube — we extract the official captions directly, so length doesn't matter. A 3-hour podcast transcript comes back just as fast as a 5-minute video.
For file uploads — we use Groq Whisper AI, which handles up to 100MB. For most podcasts, that covers 1-2 hours of audio.
For AI summaries — we actually built a smart sampling system for very long videos. Instead of just reading the first few minutes, we sample the beginning, middle, and end so the summary reflects the full content. And the number of key takeaways scales with length — short videos get 3, long podcasts get up to 10.
So yes — paste your favorite hour-long podcast URL and give it a try. It's completely free! 🎙️

finally something that handles tiktok and instagram without making me jump through hoops. the ai summary in the same language as the video is a nice touch.
@selinkutbag9gj
Thank you, Selin! That was exactly the frustration that made me build this — most tools don't support TikTok or Instagram at all. Really glad the multilingual summary resonated with you! 🙏
