Did you know that an NFT is just a hyperlink to an image that is usually hosted on GoogleDrive or another Web2.0 hosting service? đź‘€

What do you think? …

An NFT is not just an image, an NFT is more about the image metadata that is stored on blockchain, the image without the metadata is almost worthless.
Leo Cbnns
It sure would be a shame if I could add metadata to an image on my computer… Joke aside, I’m eager to see other applications of NFTs than pure speculation.
Andy Dent
@vfdraganescu the image metadata is not stored on the blockchain either. It's usually something like a JSON document stored on IPFS or another decentralised file service such as arweave - see https://docs.opensea.io/docs/met...
Christopher
@vfdraganescu an opensea NFT is just an image stored on a web2.0 host. no part of it is on the blockchain (edit: no part other than the transaction, lul). that is the entire point of this website and post, and is clear from the readme in the source code.

Someone got touchy !

To me the actual image is what holds value. Not the metadata. Same as with real art. I like the art itself, I don’t care who “owns it” (which is meta data). But this is my subjective view. Apparently people disagree and thats why NFTs are worth money. However, you can still copy the art itself…..

I'm going to go ahead and agree with the author and disagree with the other commenters. I bought this NFT, years ago, and for the majority of that time the website was down, and I had nothing to show for anything other than a record on the blockchain showing I wasted a bunch of money in a pyramid scheme. (I knew what I was buying into and learned a lot in the process, but it's hard to suggest that NFT's have any real ownership that comes close to purchasing actual artwork. But then again, maybe this calls into question human obsession with ownership to begin with.) years old NFT for reference: https://cryptocelebrities.org/ca...

@ryanmarr A+ comment, learned something about NFTs and reminded about Ben Stein.

I think this is more interesting than "someone right clicked all NFTs" and instead has some interesting things to say about where most NFTs are being hosted. Yes, NFTs are more than the image and also indicates ownership, but often times the blockchain is pointing to a web2 hyperlink where the image lives. It could disappear or change at any time, leaving the owner with a broken link. I'd check out the artist statement here and also an interview he did here before passing final judgement on this project.

@product_at_producthunt Not unless that image is hosted on IPFS which then in that case the link to that image will be permanent as long as the entire system exists
Michael Silber
@tycooperaow for sure, IPFS is a pretty good solution to this problem. That's why I said, "often times." I wonder if anyone has crawled Etherscan to see what percentage of contracts point to an ipfs domain. I'd love to better understand the breakdown of ipfs, web2 domains, NFTs stored in the contract itself, etc.

Thanks for spending your valuable time to create something dedicated to NFT regardless!
