A mobile app that helps people from marginalized groups find inclusive businesses and avoid discrimination. We crowdsource user reviews to help women, BIPOC, queer folks, and folks with disabilities stay safe from harm and discrimination while traveling.
I really lean on products like this these days. Its so helpful to know places I can go and not worry about a negative customer experience. Having like minded folks share their experiences is super helpful, and what I like best about social media: focusing on the positives and learning from each other. I think this is also a great chance for businesses to get insight into how to improve their culture for customers from underrepresented backgrounds.
@abadesi Thank you Abadesi for your support! That is exactly what our roadmap entails-- helping businesses improve their culture for customer service to marginalized folks. With our restorative approach, we will help businesses that need to improve their customer service (based on user ratings and reviews) by offering them tools to train their staff and improve their interactions with underrepresented groups, which will lead to better customer service for all!
We hope you will share our app with all of your friends and networks!
@abadesi Soo delighted with how you are receiving our mission Abadesi! You really hit the nail on the head with our vision! If you have any further feedback about our app & its experience using it, please let us know 😊
@abadesi very well put and your last sentence really nails our goal. In addition to helping marginalized groups find inclusive businesses, we also want to help build more inclusive businesses as well!
Hi everyone, I'm the founder of The Green Book Project 📗.
We launched The Green Book Project on the Apple App Store back at the end of 2020
when it was still just a side project. Fast-forward to today, and we have over 5,000+ users across the US & Canada!
This is our story:
⛴ During my senior year of college, I had the unique experience of traveling the world on a study abroad program called Semester at Sea. It was the best four months of my life, but at the same time, I noticed something wrong.
👨👨👧👦 As I traveled to 12 countries with the most diverse friend group I'd ever had, I noticed that my friends who were women or queer constantly had to deal with mistreatment and discrimination because of their identities.
❓ As a Black Man who grew up in the Deep South, these uncomfortable and sometimes scary situations felt all too familiar. And it left me wondering, "what if there was an app my friends and I could use to avoid these situations and find places where we're actually welcome?"
🧾 Not long after this, I learned about an old publication that used reader submissions to help Black travelers avoid discrimination during the Jim Crow era.
💡 And I realized that my friends and I needed one today. Thus, The Green Book Project was born.
📲 The Green Book Project is a mobile app that helps people from marginalized groups find inclusive businesses and avoid discrimination. We're a crowdsourced reviews platform (like Yelp!) where users can rate and review businesses based on how inclusive they are and warn others to steer clear if a business is particularly unsafe or unwelcoming.
😊 We're so excited for the Product Hunt community to check out what we've built and I would love any feedback you can give on how we can improve our app!
@deeblekpantha@pavell2l Thank you Pavel! We really appreciate your support. We are currently fundraising on Wefunder, and as soon as we meet our funding goals we will be hiring for new roles.
We’d love it if you would help us reach our goal by contributing today!

@deeblekpantha@pavell2l Thank you for your offer Pavel! We are working hard to create a product that changes lives for the better and we appreciate your support!
@ivan_lowe Thank you Ivan! Yes, you are definitely able to share any reviews you've posted in The Green Book Project app to your Facebook page (and other socials or through SMS!).
We made a video tutorial here if you'd like to check it out:

We appreciate your feedback!
I really like this idea! We are having an upcoming all hands in Florida and some of my team members are worried about finding safe spaces to hang out there. I'm going to take a look at this!
@britt_joiner Thank you Brittany! I'm glad that you like our product and think it could be helpful to your team. If you have any feedback on how we can improve our app, please let us know!
@britt_joiner Hi Brittany! That is exactly why we build this app and how it will benefit marginalized folks looking to find inclusive and welcoming locations and businesses. It also allows you and yours to warn others when you encounter businesses and locations that are unsafe or unwelcome for marginalized people.
As @christineduong said, please let us know how we can improve the user experience once you’ve perused the app. Be sure to check out the Discovery screen & the Notifications screen (buttons at the bottom of the screen) these are threads that show you what others have reviewed.

@britt_joiner Thank you for your support! I want to echo Christine and Yoshika and add that I've personally relied on this app and I'm so excited to see its growth :)
@britt_joiner So glad you like it, Brittany! We wish you and your crew a safe time out there! And if you folks stumble upon some welcoming and inclusive places yet to be reviewed on the app please let others know by leaving a review at said businesses! & like my awesome team members @christineduong & @ylowe have said, any user feedback would be appreciated so we can continue to improve the community's experience!
I think TGBP is brilliant. It helps people to find and discover spaces where they can be comfortable and safe, and it allows you to find and recommended businesses with shared values. Not only that, but it feels like TGBP gives you another way to support those businesses.
@jaime_sparr Thank you Jaime for your kind words about The Green Book Project! We absolutely agree that it is a great tool for helping people find safe and comfortable spaces and businesses with shared values. It's one of the reasons we created this platform in the first place - to support communities that are often underrepresented. We're glad you've found our app useful, and we hope you'll continue to use it to discover businesses that meet your needs. Thanks again for your support!
@jaime_sparr Jaime, we are elated you think so! We are so proud of the product and we're happy to know you find it useful! As you continue to use the app to discover safe and inclusive businesses please let us know of any user feedback if any! We love to hear from you folks so we can improve your experience!
@jaime_sparr EXACTLY. For us, the goal is not just to penalize businesses that miss the mark. But rather to support and uplift business owners who are doing the work to ensure that their establishments are welcoming to all
