Story Creator is a simple online video editing tool for digital creators. You can think of Canva as Photoshop for dummies while Story Creator is After Effects for dummies.
👋 Product Hunters! My name is Michael Aubry - the creator of https://storycreatorapp.com and I'm very excited to launch my project on Product Hunt!
💡 What is it?
https://storycreatorapp.com has been designed for creators to make videos for social media faster.
🤔 Why?
Gary Vee and others like him were paving the way for how brands should be marketing via Social Media. They make it seem so easy, then I tried to copy what they were doing -- I found myself tearing my hair out.
With little experience in After Effects, it was a pain to find assets and inspiration. Then I found myself Googling how to do things every 5 minutes.
I wanted a tailor-made video editor to help me pump out high-quality content in less time. I wanted something enjoyable and fun to use. When adding templates and assets they should only be one click away.
If you want to see what it's all about then go check out the product. Leave some feedback and if you would like to you're welcome to DM me on Twitter or leave a comment below 👇
@michael_joseph_aubry Congratulations on the launch of Story Creator.
Story Creator could be solving this need gap - 'Simple Video editor for beginner youtubers' posted on my problem validation platform - https://needgap.com/problems/148....
You're welcome to explain how Story Creator solves their problem for Story Creator to be found easily by those who need it.
Congrats on the launch @michael_joseph_aubry! Love your comparison as the Canva for Video. Also really appreciate the synth/vaporwave music samples 👌 Looking forward to testing this out and comparing it to apps such as InShot. Are there any plans for mobile support?
@juan_perez2 Haha thanks, I love synthwave, the movie Drive got me hooked on it. I plan to expand the music selection soon though.
Mobile support will come once I build a team. My core focus right now is growth, I cant't wait to build it but it'll have to hold off for now.
I may release a basic mobile version to do quick video editing tasks, still brainstorming ideas around the future of video. Whatever it is, I certainly want to be a part of it.
Keep in touch, we're going to make it happen together.
@michael_joseph_aubry makes complete sense. The future of video and video editing is really exciting, love seeing apps like this. Best of luck and will continue to test our Story Creator with some projects.
Synthwave~ yess!!!
Congratulations on the launch mate! Tried the product and loving it already
I actually shot a message. I'd love to convert to a lifetime user
Given opex costs in video processing wanted to know what would confirm lifetime sustainability? 🙂
Either or will still be a definite customer. This is a solid product!
@veebuv Awesome would love to have you. Server costs are expensive -- I think overtime I will be able to cut it down. For the next two years I have AWS costs covered from the start up plans that I am on.
So two years minimum, that is for certain. I don't plan on shutting it down and I hope to build a great team to keep this thing alive if I get hit by a bus.
Where did you send the message? I'll keep my eye out for it. Cheers!
@michael_joseph_aubry Thats fair to hear! Thanks for that - i'll get on the lifetime later today :)
I sent you a message on LinkedIn but all good - you have a great response here, probably something others would ask too!
Looking forward to using this and seeing it grow!
This is pretty cool! I love how you guys have a timeline with seamless editing. I'm curious though, how do you plan on differentiating with invideo, rocketium, veed, kapwing etc? This market looks quite saturated.
@cbsudu A core focus of mine is to actually provide users with a marketplace of assets. Pre-made elements, templates, and effects. Not only offer the highest quality interface and experience. My vision is to offer tremendous value at the click of a button and open the door for other creators.
I don't know about those other companies much, but I will tell you that they need to be prepared to be in a marketplace with a 20/10 passionate creator who is giving everything towards building the best product -- they will need to have a stronger vision, execution, and more persistence. If they do, then it will certainly be tough, no one said it would be easy. I believe it's worth it (despite the odds) and I believe I am the person to make it happen. I'm not going out without making a dent in this space.
The fact is I am one person currently when I expand my resources, I plan to build something even more amazing. This is just the beginning, I am 6 months in, and I am here to make some noise.
Next phase I plan to assemble a brilliant team and take this thing beyond the moon.
@doomhammer I like Promo and was inspired by it's simplicity but I felt it was limited.
The original inspiration came from my frustration with not being able to produce videos faster. When IG stories came a long I had an epiphany that video doesn't need to be hard and that video is powerful.
While stories on IG are amazing it's way too raw sometimes -- which is great under certain contexts.
In the case you want to be a bit more creative with the narrative and add elements that give it a certain touch that you get from feature films, documentaries, and professional videos that move you. You need some more tools and features to achieve that type of video.
I wanted to offer that while maintaining simplicity. Video creation should be like putting Legos together.
@michael_joseph_aubry I love this explanation. I think I'll try it, the next time I have to edit a video. For now, the experience unfortunately sucks most of the time :(
@gaurabhmathure Currently it's 10 minutes. With motion graphics and a lot going on that can eat up a lot of resources. I am working on scaling out the infrastructure. Once the system can consistently handle 10 minute videos with ease you can expect the limit to be increased :)
Report
Hey @michael_joseph_aubry , I think this is awesome. One quick question, is it possible to fade audio volume up and down as I have some clips of people speaking as testimonials but I still want to keep the music in the background but on a low volume, so you can hear the testimonials more clearly. Also, I have just finished creating a video in the editor but the video that it exports doesn't match the one I play in the editor - would be great if you could help me on this?
