For the past few months I've been building StatusDude - an uptime monitoring tool with private agents that auto-discovers your Kubernetes resources.
I run a bunch of stuff across multiple providers - internal networks, self-hosted, GKE, EKS, hybrid-cloud, you name it. Monitoring all of it without Datadog money was getting tough, and most tools can't even see what's behind a firewall. So, here we are.
How the agent works:
A tiny async agent sits inside your network and phones home over HTTPS. No inbound ports, no VPN, no firewall rules. One container, one helm install, done.
Kubernetes auto-discovery:
It picks up Ingresses, Services, and HTTPRoutes automatically - monitors and status pages spin up on their own. Deploy something new, it just gets detected.
No private network? No problem.
Multi-region verification, HTTP, TCP, and Heartbeat/Cron (dead man's switch) monitors are all here for public endpoints too.
For non-k8s private setups simply run a Docker container and configure monitors + notifications in the web dashboard.
