I bought SnowSEO through AppSumo and, unfortunately, one product decision has made it unsuitable for the workflow I bought it for.
SnowSEO has an API, but API access is restricted to their recurring Scale plan. None of the AppSumo lifetime tiers provide it. Lifetime customers are instead told to use their MCP server.
The problem is that MCP and an API are not interchangeable.
My workflow runs through GitHub Actions. I need a simple programmatic way to access a workspace and invoke a few specific operations. I don’t need unlimited usage. I would be perfectly happy with a small, rate-limited API quota, with usage deducted from the same credits the product already uses.
I even asked whether I could upgrade to a higher AppSumo lifetime tier specifically to get limited API access. The answer was simply that no lifetime tier will get API access and that I need to subscribe separately to their Scale plan.
What frustrated me more was the support conversation. I repeatedly explained that MCP requires an MCP client and does not fit my automation architecture, but the response kept coming back to “you can use MCP.” That doesn’t solve the problem I was describing.
As someone working in engineering, I understand that lifetime deals need sustainable limits. I wasn’t asking for unlimited compute or unrestricted API usage. Rate limits, monthly quotas, restricted endpoints, or credit-based API calls would all be completely reasonable.
SnowSEO may still be useful if you work interactively or already use an MCP-compatible client. But if you’re buying it expecting to integrate SnowSEO into GitHub Actions, CI/CD, your own scripts, or another automation pipeline, be aware that AppSumo lifetime plans currently provide no API access at any tier.
That restriction should be very clear before purchase.
For my use case, it significantly reduces the value of the lifetime deal.
