I'm a part of a ton of Slack communities but I'm active in only a handful.

Slack works to its fullest only when it is implemented in a team and everyone's supposed to use it for communication. Slack could/should improve on making the communities on it better by adding relevant features.

Pros:

Easiest way to get everything under one roof.

Cons:

Building active communities is really hard.

As a remote designer, this is a must have. I'm always contactable and available. Super easy way to also have quick calls and communicate with other team members on different teams.

Pros:

Possibility to be logged on multiple teams, being available at all times on mobile and desktop, and easy to connect with other services.

Cons:

I'm pretty happy with Slack, so no cons for now :)

great for both work , small teams and even for creating communitys

Pros:

its incredible good to use , and works flawlessly over different devices

Cons:

can be frustrating if channels are large can mean missing out on lots of messages

Overall this product works smoothly and the updates the developer releases are meaningful and truly addresses a lot of the bugs I generally see the week before a release. They true stay on top of the product and make a great interface for user interaction.

Pros:

I collaborate with multiple organizations and seamlessly integrate apps into the chat function for domain name availability to trello cards.

Cons:

Wish they had a better app market to integrate with Slack.

slack is ideal for me because I work remotely and I can co-ordinate with the design team and also with the development team

Pros:

can coordinate different things with a single click clack is the best, and the integrated applications are the best

Cons:

can be a little tedious at times when they are in a large community although sometimes it notifies me things I do not understand much

You can also set recurring reminders for meetings in channels and for yourself.

Pros:

Great tool for team collaboration and most of 3rd party apps provide ready integration with Slack. I use Google Calendar, Freshdesk, Jira!

We use Slack at 99designs for all internal comms and have even implemented a Slack plugin for customers on our site to help manage their design contests. It's a great communication tool, offering the ability to create various chat rooms for different purposes (we have serious ones like #Announcements and silly ones like #dadjokes) and communicate across our international offices. We also recently started using Slack's video chat feature and definitely like it more than Google Hangouts - better connectivity for sure.

Pros:

Chat rooms, privacy, cat gifs

Cons:

Consolidate threads

Overall great product!

Pros:

Slack is a great communication tool for teams. Especially when you're remote and want to get a message to your team faster than an email.

Cons:

It can get a bit distracting just like a text message so I tend to shut off notifications when doing a specific task.

Chad ReidCat enthusiast.

It's a flashier version of HipChat, but not demonstrably better necessarily. Although I do like how shared Google documents show up in chats.

Pros:

Intuitive, with a nice interface.

Cons:

Suffers from downtime now and again.

I love using emails less.

UX Improvement: Having conversation tabs similar to any modern web browser so important conversations don't get lost in the left menu drawer.

New Feature: Calendar. This would hopefully kill our company's horrific use of Microsoft Outlook once and for all :-)

Pros:

less email

Cons:

managing multiple conversations could be easier

I use this one everyday, will not be installing the native app for my desktop and I really wish this was available for mobile as well. As a web technology addict, I'd say this is one beautifully made web-app and it totally does what it needs to do. Even better.

Pros:

Fully featured yet smooth and fast.

Very efficient notifications.

Cons:

The repeated third party apps integration tips is almost spammy.

A little more inline tips on text formatting would help

It's a great app for chatting with your team (workmates). What I like it has different channels you can create and post relevant chats (like marketing, sales, product dev etc). Also, you can integrate this with other tools like for eg. google analytics and let them send a notification message to a specified channel in case of anomalities etc. Great alternative to skype for business!

Pros:

Different channels, cool integrations with other apps (google analytics, poll etc)

Cons:

Thread function could be improved

Share
Gerald AquilaCo-Founder of ONEPOINT & Elemental Tools

Never seen better onboarding

Pros:

Very clean UI, good focus on the business chat functionality with inline images etc., really like the comments functionality

Cons:

As with all business chat tools you have to find the right balance between chat and email

Transformed the way we deal with freelancers and sped up our communication exponentially. It means that we can have reactive conversations, essentially 'spinning around in the chair and chatting,' when we think of something.

Pros:

Easy to set up, simple to use, awesome for remote teams

Cons:

None that I can see

Cons:

When am done working, finding the button to show am offline is hard. I usually have to go into the settings to turn it off to show am offline.

Pros:

Has free product offering that helps get to know interface quickly.

Cons:

Turning off notifications requires going into the settings and not on the fly.

I use this every day. It's super useful for a remote team.

Pros:

can't work without it. Makes work much more efficient.

Cons:

you can't mark threads as unread. Can cause some messages to get lost

Well, it's Slack. You know what it is. It's pretty cool, eh? Still crossing fingers for a smoother Slack desktop experience, but otherwise it's a marvelous thing.

Pros:

Smooth as silk. Great integrations. Fun to use. Great for comms.

Cons:

Multiple Slack channels still not handled super well on desktop.

Slack is awesome! Very well thought-out with tons of short cuts, a great API and a pretty robust app directory to enhance the experience in all kinds of ways, some fun, some serious. Definitely integrates with almost all major platforms and the apps for Android and iOS are fantastic as well. No complaints here.

Pros:

Interface, multi-platform, accessibility

Cons:

Interesting concept but the channels can get pretty confusing and there were many miscommunications between our organization because people couldn't use it coherently. Maybe I'll try it again sometime but I need a break.

Pros:

Interesting concept but I like GroupMe or Sling more

Cons:

Not the best way to keep in touch professionally. Used it for one of my last positions and it wasn't user friendly b/w web and app :(
