What do you think? …

Hello there šŸ‘‹ Well, this is exciting! You know when you have an idea you like so much that it keeps you up at night so you spend all of your free time working on it to make it a reality? Well, a few years ago, my partner and I had such an idea, and we recently made it a reality. And that feels great! šŸ˜„ We felt this "void" in the app space because, with what current social media apps evolved into over the last decade, we no longer had a unified spot to go to and check up on the people we cared about. Current social apps have many problems not least of which are inauthenticity, status chasing, subjugation to addictive content & algorithms, and a false sense of connectivity. šŸ˜ž That wasn't always the case, however... šŸ¤” Social NETWORKING originally was about connecting us to people we knew in order to foster those connections. The apps evolved into social media when they recognized how engaging and addictive content is (and how easy they can make money from ads). We saw this shift coming years ago - that people would tire of social media and want authentic connections again. Current apps and newer ones have also recognized this and attempted to cater to this desire but have come up short with gimmicks or poor attempts to provide niche spaces on otherwise crowded platforms. So we went back to basics and built an app that we wanted for ourselves with the hope that others would as well! It's called Sitch (as in "situation"). šŸ“± On Sitch, there are no followers, only mutual connections. There are no ads, no brands, no algorithms, and no content - the information is timely; how are you doing today. šŸ‘ A Sitch is made up of currently 3 elements; a mood represented by a five-point color scale, an emoji used to elaborate that mood or what you're doing, and an optional tet field for more info. You can group your people into unique circles based on how you see your network. Currently, you can react with an emoji to a Sitch, and we're working on more reaction and engagement features. This is just 1.0 1ļøāƒ£ We're a small team (my co-founder + 2 devs), but we work hard. Sort of put our heads down and just cranked out these apps for both iOS and Android as it's important that you can connect with your loved ones regardless of device. Being bootstrapped, our resources are limited, but we move as fast as possible with iterations. I'm very much looking forward to thoughts and feedback from y'all in the community! šŸ’ āœŒļø Majfred

This is an incredible achievement, @majfred, of creating Sitch, which makes social networking easier and safer than ever before! It's revolutionizing the way we stay connected with just the good of current media apps. Here's to an incredible start.

@rep_eat Thank you! Our first app so we made lots of mistakes and it took a while to do without funding, but it sure feels good to have it out there.

followers are for gamification and ads are for sustainability elements. what are you substituiting? congratz
Majfred Memetaj
@naveed_rehman Thanks! Yeah, good points there. Currently, we're not substituting anything. It's the lack of followers, ads, algos, etc. that is part of the point here. Those things bring good and bad with them, and people are tired of the bad. So we built a space where there's non of that. We're too early to determine what our version of sustainability will be, but options are on the table.

@majfred good luck my friend!

This looks really fun and a return to the old days of what social networking was supposed to be, keeping up with friends rather than doomscrolling through videos and memes. How do you think the network effects of the Sitch will work?
Majfred Memetaj
@harry_moy Exactly! It's not meant to addict you and keep you on the app for long. Naturally, as we release new features, time on app will increase but only as long as users find it useful (not increased due to addictive algos or by introducing "content"). We expect the network effects to be similar to most social apps but perhaps "capped" since we've designed it in a way that's meant to be used with those closest to you, not everyone you possibly know. So it'll be interesting to look at average number of connections by region. Then again, users can end up taking the app in a different direction if they want to connect with more and more people. That would cause us to pivot a bit to accommodate them. For now, we expect users to connect with anywhere between 10-50 people.
