Scumble is a free, open-source desktop editor for AI inpainting. Select part of a picture, say what belongs there, and the result lands as its own colour-matched layer. Runs on your own ComfyUI or your own API keys: FLUX 3, GPT Image, Nano Banana and more.

How well does Scumble handle larger selections or edits where the surrounding lighting and shadows need to change along with the new object?
@maklyen_may That’s tricky because the AI only sees the area being edited and doesn’t really understand what the surrounding area looks like.
The new Flux3 model can edit areas up to 4K, though, which already makes the selection pretty large.
So my workflow would be to first inpaint a larger area with Flux3, and then refine the details with
Hey Scumble! First of all, great video! I spend my weekends in Lightroom and PS when I'm not out taking photos. I felt myself participating in that conversation :)
Have you received any feedback for tracking token spend or cost? Just thinking out loud, I can spend hours in Lightroom without realizing how much time has gone by.
Nice to see this open source and running on our own keys. I work on virtual try-on for clothing stores, and the hardest part of inpainting for us is keeping a garment's print and texture clean at the edges of the mask. Since the result lands as its own layer, can I adjust the mask feathering after generation, or do I have to run it again? Congrats on shipping!
The colour matched layer part caught my attention. That could make small edits much easier to blend into a existing image.
@daniel_henry4 Thanks! This was possible in Photoshop or ComfyUI before as well, just in a much more cumbersome way. Having it directly as a feature in the layer saves so much time.
The layer-based approach is a really nice touch. It makes AI edits feel more like normal photo editing instead of having to redo the whole image.
PSD export is a useful detail here. If an AI edit is almost right, it’s nice to be able to finish it in another editor instead of generating again.
