You can explore estimates that others have received to get a rough idea of how much your project should cost. Even as a "responsible homeowner" who gets 3 quotes for every project, it's still not clear if an estimate is too high or suspiciously low. Google searches (or chatGPT queries) only provide broad ranges that often seem out of tune with market realities. The only source that gives me confidence is what friends and family have paid. OMG, I'm doing two remodels (one for me, one for my mom) and getting quotes is at this point more work than my full time job. This really resonates! I've been getting absurd quotes all week.
