Polygon is an interactive video player for language learning. Click on text and closed captions in the video to translate them, upload your own videos, save to your library, and accumulate snippets for a learning experience like none other!
This is SOOOO cool. I'm a very visual person so having a really interactive way to learn languages is super effective for me. Way better than duolingo. Makes me feel like I'm actually walking around in tokyo, my favorite city. Plus gets me pumped to travel. Do you intend to add keyboard shortcuts?
@jessmei_ We do have them! You can check them out on the video player, by hitting the question mark button on the bottom right of the screen :)

Congrats on your new product.
I found myself watching quite a lot of the videos for a long time. If I was watching the exact same video on Youtube, I would have click away within the first couple of minutes.
Question: Have you experimented with 360 degree video? If you haven't, you must. And have you thought about the user just hovering over a sign to see / hear the translation while the video still plays instead of having to click to pause then click the circle to read?
Google has a camera app which superimposes the translation live on screen. I think you should check it out. Maybe get some ideas of what you could be up against.
Great work!!
@linden_thomas For sure, we are exploring this type of interaction. One design decision we're considering is the tradeoff between a no-distractions immersive experience vs an enhanced info - heavy augmentation. Looking into ways to have the objects clickable within their own outlines, which may be easier to interact with than a small circle that moves if the video is playing. Thanks for the feedback!
Hey Product hunt! @jonathan_xu and I are thrilled to unveil Polygon, an hyperreal video platform for language learning.
We've been excited by all the ways video could, but is not currently, being used. There's an extraordinary amount of context, information, and meaning waiting to be unlocked in every frame. Polygon is just the first version of what we have in mind for what's possible.
Using the polygon video player, you can watch videos in foreign languages and understand more than ever before with interactive captions and text-to-speech processing. Just pause the video and click on a group of words in the frame or on the closed captions to make it come alive.
You can also save snippets of uncovered language to your profile to reinforce your learning or to come back to the video at the right position.
Moreover, we're welcoming creators who want to upload their own content and create libraries and curriculums of engaging videos for language learning. Just log into the app and visit the uploads page to apply.
Polygon would not have been possible without our extraordinary supporters. We'd like to take a moment to thank @davefontenot and @lucy_guo for bringing us together (in taiwan!) to work on this, to @christina1cheng for her next-level design skills, to @estrax for an unrelenting stream of honest feedback, and to the entire HF0 family for encouraging us to dream and build.
Don't hesitate to join our discord at https://discord.gg/5YD75HFTSe or email us at hello@polygon.video with any questions 🙂
Onwards!! 🚀🏋️♂️📺⚡

Learning Chinese back in the golden days, we sat in a classroom reciting words and phrases back to our teachers. Can imagine this app becoming a total game changer when it comes to interactively learning a new language with context to the environment.
Watching you two hack this together has been so inspiring! Super excited to see where this all goes!
Nice, I am into the idea of just watching videos of wandering around at a cool place and getting something out of it as well. Very unique concept, branding looks awesome.
@the_esc It's great to hear you feel the same! This idea started when I was walking in the streets of Taiwan, wondering if it would be cool to read the signs and interact with them on my own terms.

Congrats on launching Polygon! @jonathan_xu & @kunalsh23 This is a crazy cool concept and I feel like I can finally learn Chinese much better than before 🤩 Plus, this is an amazing first step to demonstrating how AR can help people beyond just being a cool technology!
so awesome to witness this vision come to life (in real life, in taiwan!)
amazing work @kunalsh23@jonathan_xu , excited to share this with all my friends and see how you guys revolutionize learning in an increasingly digital, visual world :)
