NYC Train Sign

Bringing transit data above ground

get it

NYC Train Sign is created using Raspberry Pi, a LED matrix, and a locally 3D printed base. Using our own API, we host official MTA data to provide up to the minute train times.

    Pros:

    NONE.

    Cons:

They took my money and ran

The company marketed their product as something that was in stock, but then after a month with no updates, sends out an email stating that it will be 6+ months until they can deliver the product. Since then - their website has vanished and an angry mob has amassed on their Facebook page.

I would avoid these makers in the future - this is not how you operate a business.

  • Pros:

    None

    Cons:

The company said they have 6 month shipping delays and refuse to send a refund

They sent this email to their customers

"What does this mean for you, our customers? It may now take 6+ months for you to get your product. We know, another delay. Trust us when we tell you we're just as upset and disappointed, especially considering how much negotiation and sacrifices we've made. We aren't calling it quits, but will no longer be producing the "Made in Brooklyn" version. Overseas production is the only way we can catch up and will result is a more stable product (with all of our v2 updates). Our development team will continue to maintain and improve the cloud services the product depends on for customers with signs.

We know this is an extremely frustrating situation for everyone. Many of you have been rooting for us since we've launched. While we're not giving up, we know you may be disappointed. If our updated timeline doesn't fit, you can have your money back. We suggest that you dispute the charge with your credit card company due to late shipping."

That last line really annoyed me. We paid for our product and they want us to dispute the charge rather than just issuing refunds?

This company is a SCAM. Avoid at all costs. I'm not expecting to see my money ever again.

Product looks great! Do you have API access for the trains with live data, such as the L train? Also any plans to make the API public? Submitted a request to the MTA Google group like a month ago with no luck. 😬

Wait, it only shows NYC Train information. Tell me we can chose what to display on there, like our upcoming Release Deadlines or Calendar Events...

Dig the idea, but super pricey for an LED matrix in in a wooden case.

Was looking for NYC Train Sign of PH before attempting to hunt it, Really love the idea and how it can extend further with the API. Glad that you guys are using Gather on Shopify. We have earned an extra cool badge for that!
