Hi Product Hunters, I recently published Newsflash in late October. I've been toying with the idea of creating a news/notification App-as-a-Service (where users would only go into the app to configure) for a few years. The app's purpose is to deliver user-relevant news in the form of a push notification. My aim is to take it further than news, transit updates, weather, headlines, and sports scores. I think it would be great to deliver a simple, light-weight "dispatch" service that is turned on and setup by the person who intends to use it. I would love your feedback. Best, Patrick

@pscolucci this is very similar to Facebook's Notify (RIP) and Ping (RIP). I definitely miss those apps! Is your design intentionally Economistesque?

Hi @chrismessina, thank you for sharing your thoughts on Newsflash. My initial inspiration was (and is currently) from the lack of push notification support from Feedly. I was aware of the demise of Notify during the development of Newsflash which worried me. However, I don't intend stop at publicly available news. I would love to build a light-weight, one-way messaging platform to reduce the amount of SMS and emails we receive from many of the services we use. I love leveraging the system fonts, both for iOS and Android, as much as possible. They both have an appeal to it that makes reading on a smartphone enjoyable. I intend to beef up the UI a little more but it will stay minimalistic for the most part.

@pscolucci great! What other services do you receive SMS's from?

Hi @chrismessina, email and SMS are popular ways for companies to communicate with their customers. SMS is great to provide critical info to a user and email is ideal for less urgent situations. SMS is clunky and expensive. A lot of companies would prefer push notifications over SMS but are unsure about what that route looks like. As you now, Uber made the switch from sending riders an SMS (to push notifications) when their ride requests are accepted and when drivers have arrived. I think it'd be great if a platform existed to make this simple for companies. It's ambitious but it's what I'm striving for down the road.

I love the app! It's simple, minimalistic and I love the push notifications and the weather implication! Although I do have a few suggestions that I would love to see in the app as well. Like a widget with the latest news ( like the one on the google news app ). Or a 3D Touch implication. Having weather notifications whenever you set them to be would also be awesome.

@tommypetkov Thanks, Tommy! That's great feedback. You've given me a few ideas around implementing Force Touch/widgets into Newsflash.
