MovieSongDB is the missing hub for movie music. There’s no single place to find what movies a song appears in—or exactly where it plays—until now. Search by song or artist, click any track to see every movie it’s featured in, and dive deeper into iconic scenes. Think you know your soundtracks? Take the quiz and put your movie song knowledge to the test.
Why I Built Movie Song DB
It started with a question my friends and I ask all the time:
“Wait… what movie is this song from?”
You know the song. You can see the scene. But there’s no simple place to look it up.
IMDb knows movies. Spotify knows songs. Google kind of knows both - but only if you phrase the question perfectly. What didn’t exist was a clean, searchable way to connect songs to the moments they appear on screen.
So I built it.
The Problem I Wanted to Solve
I wanted a place where you could:
Search a song and instantly see the movies it appeared in
Understand when it played and what was happening
I wanted something easily accessible and easy to use. I wanted something that could be used as a reference, and act as a future platform to engage with other movie music lovers out there. I wanted a true Movie Song Database.
How It Came Together (aka “I’m Not a Developer”)
I started the most old-school way possible:
A Google Sheet. Manually adding songs. Slowly losing my mind.
That’s when I turned to AI.
Using ChatGPT, I built a repeatable workflow to generate structured movie-song data - song, artist, movie, scene descriptions, and timestamps. All formatted cleanly for a growing library.
The database suddenly came alive:
Action movies
Actor filmographies
Animated classics
Entire genres
I could actually see the product coming together.
Building the App (With Vibes, Not Credentials)
I hadn’t used terminal in over 10 years.
I’d never used Expo.
I’d never deployed anything to Vercel.
With a lot of vibe coding, trial-and-error, and AI as my guide, I went from zero to a rough v0 running locally. I couldn't believe when I finally got my app from white screen to working.
From there:
The app went live on Vercel
The database synced directly from Google Sheets
Updates became a one-command process
Movie Song DB was officially real.
What’s Next?
This started as a fun game between friends - and quietly turned into the first product I built from scratch myself. If you love movies, music, or those unforgettable moments where the two collide - I hope you enjoy it.
