I'm Yaokai Jiang, a software engineer. I made this nocode tool Momen with my team mostly to scratch my own itch, which can be summed up with: "building an MVP and scaling it". I am a software engineer by both training and trade. As I was working on various side projects before starting this company, I came to the realization that I was repeating the same process: cloud server -> database -> app server -> api -> react -> css, and many other pains in between. I also realized that most of the side projects only contained very limited amount of logic that is truly "core and unique". I asked myself: "Is this the best way of testing and expanding my business ideas? And why can't this be more democratized?" So after the startup that I was working for went public, I decided to embark on this journey to answer exactly those two questions. That was early 2020 (yeah, pre-covid) 💪We wanted and still want Momen to be the ideal tool for non-technical founders to bring their ideas to market. Much like being that sword wielded by a hero going out to slay all the beasts. Now, after almost 5 years of development and iteration, my team and I finally are confident to bring it out for all the hunters to check out! With an integrated AI agent builder to boot! (rag, tools, structured output etc...) We currently support web only, and we expect to support native mobile apps next year. Glad to see another no-code tool! What's the advantage of Momen compared with tools like Bubble, Webflow or Flutterflow?

@carol12 Excellent question! Momen is like Bubble married to framer and xano. We offer as much flexibility as bubble, a modern UI designer similar to framer, and better backend performance than xano (at least according to my own test). Webflow is much better suited for building a mostly static website or websites with limited data interactivity (like a blog), whereas Momen is built for web applications with intensive data interactivity and complex logic. They are each suited for different use cases. Flutterflow is an excellent mobile app frontend builder. Momen does not yet support mobile apps (android / iOS). We plan to support mobile apps by mid 2025. Also Flutterflow relies on mostly firebase for their backend, whereas Momen has an integrated backend, with much stricter type checks as well as much lower cost when your data grows. One of our client's largest table is 68 million rows, and his bill was only 2x single-tenant kit + the project plan, which in total is only arond 300 dollars per month.

@jiangyaokai Thanks! Sounds like Momen can handle scalability well. How does it perform when it comes to complex apps (in interms of logic and functions)? It seems like no code tools are more suitable for building simple mvps?

@carol12 We have support for both complex frontend and backend logic. And we have fully interoperable frontend code component. In the backend, in addition to the usual CRUD operations and conditionals, we also have code blocks that can directly interact with the database, APIs and other actionflows. In fact, we have support for invoking AI agents as well as building AI agents that can utilize all the Momen capabilities as tools! You should give it a try. We do include free tokens to get you started.

Congrats on your launch, team Momen! The logo and name are really cool. Is there a story behind them? The control panel is somewhat like Figma? It seems a bit challenging for me to get used to it.

@bonvisions Thanks for trying us out! We wanted to use "moment" for "building your app in a moment" but then it is difficult for SEO and domain names with "moment" in them were more expensive so we just settled on "momen". The controls are specifically meant to mimick Figma/Framer, especially for user interface design. We had a previous version and the more we worked on it, the more we realized that Figma/Framer already gave us a good example of how to build a design tool. Also a similar design to those two common design tools gave existing web designers the familiarity they prefer out of the box. @andyfuture This is a fantastic question. I will approach this from a few angles: 1. At this moment values that AI coding agents such as bolt.new provide are way too unpredictable. I.e. you can not fully rely on them to deliver products that pass the "monetizable" bar. 2. A corollary to that is, people who can reap value from such tools are existing programmers. 3. Even for seaoned programmers such as myself, I was using cursor to implement a reasonably large project (less than 2 thousand lines I think), I ended up ditching it and went back to github copilot, as I was losing control over what the code does. A feeling shared by many programmers. 4. Then there are those tools that promise "get your app with a single prompt". This is entirely infeasbile because imagine the agent being the most talented programmer the world has ever seen, do you think he will deliver the product you have in mind with even 5 minutes of input from you? The process of using AI to build applications must be maticulously designed and productized, also to overcome the fixed weights of LLMs. 5. I also think that difficulty is universal. Be it for animals, humans, CPUs or LLMs. The difficulty of something can be thought of the size of the search space to solve a particular problem. And platforms that offer additional abstract (correct ones) will reduce difficulty for problem solving for all entities. That is the same reason we don't ask AIs to start with assembly code. 6. There is no reason AI cannot work no-code platforms. I have seen people use chatgpt to guide them through bubble.io to make an application. 6. Of course there is the issue of not having enough data out there for isotheric / less popular no-code / low-code platforms for LLM training. But that has less to do with the solution being no-code / low-code, and more to do with the availability of training data. I hope this explains my thinking with enough clarity. Please let me know if you have follow up questions.

@ishitajain21 framer and webflow excel at static site / sites without much data interactivity. They are heavily optimized for that purpose. We are more of a general purpose tool, which means that we can be used to build complex web apps such as marketplace, customer portals, CRM software, auctions, or even another SaaS product. It also means that for a simple static site, you will be better off choosing framer / webflow. We are more akin to Bubble + framer + xano.
