McLeaner

A leaner Mac, where you decide what stays and what goes

McLeaner is an open source Mac cleanup tool for people who want control, not guesswork. It scans your system and shows exactly what can be removed before anything happens. No black boxes, no aggressive “one-click clean,” and no paid upsells. Built after years of accumulated clutter that commercial cleaners failed to detect, it helped reclaim over 40GB of ignored files on a long-used machine. Ideal for devs, power users, and anyone who wants a leaner Mac without trusting opaque cleanup software.

Hi Product Hunt, I am Yvan, the maker of McLeaner. I have been using macOS for decades and kept running into the same problem. Old apps, deprecated tools, caches, launch agents, and leftovers piling up over the years. Commercial cleaners either ignored them or removed things without telling me what was happening. I built McLeaner to solve that exact frustration. What makes it different: - Open source. You can see what it does. - Dry-run by default. Nothing is removed unless you explicitly apply changes. - Fully transparent output. Every file and action is listed. - Designed to clean what commercial tools often miss. Who it is for: - Developers and technical users - Long-time Mac users with years of accumulated clutter - Anyone who wants visibility and control Who it is not for: - People looking for a one-click “magic clean” - Users who prefer fully automated black-box tools This is my first open-source project, so feedback matters a lot. If you try it, I would really appreciate comments, issues, or suggestions on how to improve it. Thanks for taking a look.
