What do you think? …

Lungo prevents your Mac from falling asleep and your screen from dimming. This can be useful when, for example, doing a presentation at work or having a recipe open on your Mac while cooking. It's a modern alternative to Caffeine, which hasn't been updated in years and lacks retina icon and dark mode support. Lungo is my third macOS app this year. Previous ones are Battery Indicator and Touch Bar Simulator. I started learning macOS app development and Swift at the beginning of the year. My goal is to do six macOS apps in 2017, to learn to ship and get better at Swift. You can read more about Lungo in my announcement blog post. (The FAQ section there answers most questions you might have) How is this different from Amphetamine? Amphetamine has lots features. Most of which I would never use. It ships with a myriad of menu bar icons to choose from, but none that I think look good. With Lungo I wanted a focused and simple app with great defaults, in the same spirit as the original Caffeine app.

@sindresorhus I have been using it and have uninstalled all other messy applications I used for this purpose. In my use-case, I just put Lungo up in indefinite mode and use ⌃ + ⇧ + POWER button to sleep the display! Awesome app.

@sindresorhus I've been using Amphetamine for a long time (previously a Caffeine user) and definitely found all the features overwhelming. I just want my Mac to not go to sleep, or to sleep the display. That's it. I could never understand all the extra features in Amphetamine. Looking forward to trying this out.

An update is out with: - Added a beautiful activation animation. - Added ability to right-click to activate. - Added an option to left-click to activate. (You then right-click to show the menu) - Added an option to activate at launch.

@sindresorhus It's really smart to mention your other products here :) :)

I've been using Lungo since its early beta and I'm enjoying it so far. Nice touches like option clicking the menubar icon to activate/deactivate it and built-in timeouts (10 minutes, 1 hour, forever, etc) make this app a pleasure to use. I know Sindre is also working on some kick-ass animation for the menubar icon and it's stunning. I'd download Lungo just for that at least :) It's nothing like I've seen before.

@vdemedes Now I really want to see that animation. @sindresorhus is good with micro-anims. ✌️

@vdemedes @eonpilot Alright, here's the work-in-progress: https://youtu.be/Q3mXORPDguE I'm using CAEmitterLayer and CABasicAnimation to achieve the effect.

@vdemedes @eonpilot @sindresorhus Wow, that's epic 😍

Does it prevents MacBook from sleeping when mac is closed?
Sindre Sorhus
@levchenkod No, that’s not allowed for apps on the App Store. Imagine you activate it while your computer is doing a heavy task and then put the laptop in your bag. Your laptop could easily overheat. If you really need this, check out InsomniaX.

Hello, It's same than caffeine command line but with UI or there is a difference ? I think this is a good feature but a developer feature so they probably already use the command line
Sindre Sorhus
@jnoleau It's using the same low-level system APIs as the `caffeinate` command-line tool. This app is not just for developers though. My mom uses it to keep the screen from dimming while cooking, to see the recipe. I'm a developer and I use the terminal a lot, but I still prefer a menu bar app for this.

How does it compare with Amphetamine?
Sindre Sorhus
@rkalis See my top comment.

Thanks for building such a useful and modern tool. One thing I miss about it from my days of using Caffeine is the ability to turn it on/off with one click. What do you think about making the menu pop up only on right click?
Sindre Sorhus
@yefim I already have that built. Will be out soon.
Sindre Sorhus
@yefim It's out now.
