What do you think? …

I built Koi Watch as an alternative to existing "watch together" websites and tools. KW is unique in that it can let you bring your own videos stored on Google Drive (with no permissions headache), while also letting you control public streaming videos from your favorite sources. I designed KW to be as friction-less as possible: there's nothing to download, and you can get a movie-night together with a group of friends in just a few minutes. Give it a try!

This is awesome! My girlfriend and I watch Netflix using teleparty almost every day. Does this work for any video in the browser, or only the apps on the last picture?
Sarim Abbas
@hankbreckenrid1 Thank you! Currently Koi Watch only supports apps on the last picture. This is because the underlying video in Netflix, Hulu, HBO etc. is difficult to access without something like a Chrome extension to manipulate each user's webpage. I am thinking about a few promising workarounds, and will keep you posted!

@hankbreckenrid1 Oh another thing I should add is that I'm planning to add youtube-dl support soon which should increase the number of supported websites dramatically 😊

@obvius_app Thank you! I am often drawn to calming scenes from the natural world, and so I picked koi fish!

How is this different than watch party, teleparty, etc.?
Sarim Abbas
@thea_mark Teleparty is a browser extension that manipulates each user's webpage in order to bring them into sync. It starts/stops/seeks HTML5 videos on the page and communicates with other connected users. However, such extensions are temperamental and can break if the video streaming site changes its page layout. In contrast, Koi Watch streams the video file natively or with official APIs to all connected users in the room. Because KW is not an extension, it can provide a nicer user experience and other bundled features e.g. video chat. Watch Party is also room-based and is therefore able to provide some of those nicer features like video chat. Koi Watch has parity with its URL streaming feature. Koi Watch also lets you bring your own videos from Google Drive which Watch Party does not. Watch Party lets you access protected content like Netflix by launching a virtual browser, but in practice, this is no better than screen-sharing and is not a native video stream. In future, Koi Watch will expand its list of supported sites by using youtube-dl under the hood, and also provide streaming over magnet links. There are a few workarounds for Netflix etc. as well, but those are planned for more long term. I hope that helps! Thanks for your question : )

This is such a great product - I can attest as someone who has beta tested Koi Watch. I loveeee the remote control functionality. It makes syncing videos a breeze. I've always had trouble with teleparty and hulu abruptly taking me to another timestamp or wondering if my friends are on the same page as me. I'm definitely replacing teleparty and zoom with this.
