@robinyoong ahah thank you 😄 Another idea was to call it "Ipfix" from the famous character Idéfix (Dogmatix in English) but that would only work in French. It basically means "Fixed IP". I think this was @marcantoinefon's idea 🐶
Hi PHunters 😺
I don’t count the number of times I check Google to get my IP address. I thought that instead of always 1) opening a browser 2) type “my ip” on Google 3) select a link 4) select my ip 5) copy/paste it, I could probably build a simple app for myself. Then I thought I could probably share it with you since I’m probably not the only one in this case.
IP Man is pretty simple:
🥋 click on the app icon
📳 it displays your public IP address plus your ethernet or wlan address depending on which one you’re connected with
🖱 you can copy them just by clicking or thanks to the shortcuts displayed on the menu
Additional features I could implement:
- launch at login
- add local IP when connecting with USB iPhone
- add MAC addresses
- your ideas
Feedback and suggestions welcome!
PS: Thanks again @dimitribosch for the name idea ;)

@dimitribosch@marie_dm_ practical and useful. Any thoughts into a paid feature of autocopying the IP addresses to the cloud and syncing the current IP address with a fixed external IP address/URL so that folks could get a psuedo fixed IP address - iPdame
@stepheninoue Thanks Stephen! Unfortunately it's not something I'm planning to do. I think other services already do that. Do you ask because that's something you'd use?
Cool idea, if there is any room for improvement suggestions I think it'd be very useful to notify users if the IP address changes. Could do this through a notification or just change the colour of the mac menu icon.
@sam_ayres A different state on the icon might be less annoying that a real notification, what do you think?

@marie_dm_ Notifications could potentially be annoying if (for some weird reason your IP resets a lot), I agree.
The state change of the icon is more subtle but then the challenge would be giving the state some form of context so the user understand what it means.
Although I guess the target audience of the app is very developer orientated so they'd probably be able to guess quite quickly what it means. Dealers choice!
@sam_ayres I agree. Also a notification in the form of an alert doesn't stay on the screen and like you said your IP address is not supposed to change that often. Plus, you can configure this in your preferences.
Having to change often network and testing lot of sites hosted locally from smartphone is great to have always ready all the info about my local/public ip addresses.
