Great Power Chess

Great Power Chess

East meets West on the board

This game blends Western chess and Chinese chess, with each side of the board following its own rules. When a piece crosses to the other side, it adopts the movement rules of that side—it can’t move in ways that don’t exist there.

Hi Product Hunt! I’m Andy, and I’m excited to share Great Power Chess with you today. I built this free app because I love chess (even though I’m not great at it), and I wanted something that brings people together. The name “Great Power Chess” is a nod to today’s global tensions, but it’s also a hopeful reminder: one of the greatest powers in life is the power of friendship. This app was designed for two people to play face to face, each commanding a different side of the board. You can also play both sides yourself, if you’re just experimenting or learning. There’s no strict turn system—just like when you’re playing on a real board at home. That freedom makes it a great tool for learning and exploring how the two systems interact. Just tap on a piece to see a simple explanation of how it moves, along with all its possible moves. It’s easy to use and doesn’t require any prior knowledge or complicated learning. It’s simple and made for moments of friendship. I’d love your feedback to help make it better.
