Hi All, I'm the Co-Founder and COO at Edible. I also created our mobile platform. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. If you, a friend, or family member has dietary restrictions, we'd love to hear your thoughts on Edible! What do you think? What's good? What's bad? What's one thing you would change? ==Launch Medium Post== https://medium.com/edible-projec... ==Tech Stack== We used React Native for our iOS/Android app. Our backend is powered by a Node.js server and Firebase.
@ish and I built Edible during our Junior year of college. After 18 months of iteration, we’re excited to share what we’ve built with you. We’re empowering users to eat the way that suits their lifestyle by making health, diet, and allergy information for dishes at restaurants as accessible as possible. We’ve recently launched in Los Angeles where we support vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free lifestyles. The idea came about when I went to college and realized how much harder it is to visit restaurants with my food allergies than it was in my hometown. It honestly felt like a game of twenty questions with the waitstaff every time I ordered - we figured there was a better solution for this. We can’t wait to see how you use our platform, and I’ll be around today to answer any questions. P.S. - We’re looking to expand into three more cities this fall, let us know in the comments if you want us to come your way! 🍽
@michael_copley what food allergies did you have?
@that_marouk_ish I actually have a lot of weird ones 😅 I have a severe dairy allergy (not lactose intolerant), allergies to soy, barley (no beer!), some fish & every treenut except almonds. It's a little all over the place!
@michael_copley that sounds awful, I can see why you made the app. How would you normally discover food that you could eat without this app? I guess what differentiates Edible from something like Yelp or Happy Cow?
@that_marouk_ish normally I'd have to ask the waitstaff a handful of questions, and the worst part was when the item I was asking about ended up not working, then id have to start over asking questions about a different item... Edible is different from both Yelp and HappyCow because we're gathering diet and allergy information about every *menu* item. In other words, we're not saying: "Go to this place, they'll have options for ____ diet." We're saying: "You can have 'insert-specific-items' at 'insert-restaurant' given your diet." We also let you know how to order certain menu items to accommodate your diet!
I don't have food restrictions, but I love how you can search ingredients like eggs and find places that serve them
@getsekhoned thanks, Neil! It is a useful tool if you're searching for a particular kind of food item as well :)
🎉🎉 congrats!
@rockinbinbin thanks :)
Am I the only one who watched that commercial and thought that ramen is not vegetarian?
@claire_reitz it can be made vegetarian pretty easily
