Hi Product Hunt! I'm Kir, and I've been building desigma: a free, open-source design tool that runs natively on Windows, macOS and Linux.
I wanted a design tool I actually own. No account, no seats, no subscription, files on my own disk, and source code I can read and change. So desigma is written in pure Rust, with its own renderer, and it works offline.
What's in it today:
• Frames, auto layout, components with variants and properties, variables with modes
• Prototyping with Smart Animate, plus a Motion timeline with keyframes, springs and 41 presets (export to GIF/WebM)
• Whiteboards (stickies, connectors, timer and voting) and slide decks, in the same app
• Dev mode with CSS, Tailwind, React, SwiftUI and Compose, and an MCP server so AI agents can edit the open file
• It opens .fig files and REST JSON exports
New this week: live collaboration. Click Share, send the link, and everyone edits the same file in real time with cursors and Follow. It's peer-to-peer and encrypted, so there's still no account and no server. If you want a file online all the time, you can run desigma-server on a VPS.
It's an early alpha, so expect rough edges. Builds aren't code-signed yet, so your OS will warn you on first launch (the install guide explains the one click).
I'd love to hear what you'd need to switch for a real project, and what breaks. I'll be here all day answering.

Congrats on the launch!!
going to actuallyyy try this one👍 the fig import plus dev mode means i can test it on a real file instead of a toy, which is where most alternatives fall over for me.
whats the long term plan though?? not worried, just that if i get my team(or company) onto it id rather know now whether a paid tier is coming than find out later 😃
Hi Kir, this is the one I am looking for! I will see if I can switch the design part from figma to this completely. I will ask the agent to try
@gavin_fgg0815 give it a try! Let me know if there are any problems, will fix it.
Being able to open an existing .fig file is a useful starting point. I'd test a real component library first, because rebuilding that would be a big part of switching.
@oleksii_sekundant you can not only open fig files, you can work together with your teammates!
If there are any feedback or suggestions feel free to add issue in GitHub. Thanks❤️
The combination that caught my eye is local files plus SwiftUI in Dev mode. I spend a lot of time turning designs into app UI, and a tool where the file stays on my disk while still offering variants, variables, and auto layout feels like a real alternative for a small project. How well does the SwiftUI export handle components with variants — does it generate reusable views, or mostly one-off code per frame?
Can desigma open or import .fig files from Figma, or is it a fresh start for existing projects? Also curious how you handle fonts across Windows, macOS and Linux.
@yuv23639661 yes it can
@yuv23639661 desigma draws all text with its own engine, so the same font looks the same on Windows, macOS and Linux.
