We built DataSentry after repeatedly seeing the same problem across data teams: warehouse costs growing faster than usage, with very little visibility into what was actually driving the spend. Teams would scale compute to solve performance issues, but rarely had tooling to understand which queries, workloads, or patterns were inefficient. Cost reviews were reactive, manual, and often disconnected from engineering workflows. FinOps and data teams weren’t aligned because the data just wasn’t accessible in a usable way. Initially, we focused only on surfacing cost breakdowns. But during development, it became clear that visibility alone wasn’t enough. Teams needed context, prioritization, and eventually automation. So we evolved from simple reporting to AI-driven analysis — identifying waste patterns, estimating impact, and enabling optimization without risking performance.
