I'm really stoked to offer Product Hunters exclusive access to our next product: Connect.

Connect surfaces personal and company information right inside your Gmail next to every conversation. If you've missed the old Rapportive, then this is the answer you've been looking for.

Connect will also let you find any business email address, so no more trawling through sites or guessing emails. Just hit that blue Clearbit logo when composing an email.

Behind the scenes Connect uses the technology and dataset powering's APIs. We're offering Connect exclusively to Product Hunters today. This is an early product for us and we're still figuring out how it fits in our product line. However, anyone who signs up today will always have free access.
@maccaw hey Alex love the way you've been taking Clearbit over the last year or so!

Quick question - when you connect gmail it asks for permission to view your contacts, I'm sure that's required for the functionality but do you pull these into cb to further improve your dataset?

@maccaw Great work here! I love the design and how easy it is to use.

@maccaw Thanks! Curious how this compares to Nimble contacts?

@tommoor @maccaw Agree on that. There should be more clear details on whether Clearbit Connect is storing (or using) submitted email records in any way.

Great work on this, very valuable product @maccaw

@tommoor I think the answer is yes: "In return for securely sharing your business contacts, you get free, ongoing access to more than 20 million people and 5 million company profiles."

@tommoor @maccaw I was concerned about that too - so read the terms These include:

"a) By installing the Service, you provide Connect and any of its affiliates (i) a license to access information stored in Google’s cloud services relating to your Gmail account, including but not limited to email messages and contact lists (“Client Data”) until you uninstall the Service; (ii) an irrevocable license to copy, duplicate, modify reproduce, create derivative works of, distribute, publish, perform or display Client Data and sell, transfer, assign, disclose or make available the Client Data to any third party, including Connect’s customers, contractors, strategic partners, agents and service providers in accordance with our Privacy Policy (available at The foregoing licenses shall be nonexclusive, royalty-free and perpetual (except as set forth in subsection (ii) above), and Connect shall have the right to sublicense, assign or transfer such licenses without restriction or prior notice to you." (although "c) The foregoing subsection (a) does not apply if you are a Connect Premium member.").

The rest of the terms are equally 'all encompassing'.

Shame. It looks a great product, but I've had to immediately uninstall.

@edwardkay @tommoor good question - I addressed some of the points below but to elaborate:

You're right that we need those permissions/terms for functionality. We realize the permissions are a big ask to make from a privacy perspective. Email data is some of the more sensitive that exists online. We would love to limit our access to metadata only, but Gmail's OAuth permissions are not that granular yet. We never store any email content, and do everything we can to ensure our users data is safe.

@maccaw thanks for sharing this.

@maccaw How are you different from Rapportive?
Tom Newbold — Co-Founder, Zendo
@maccaw @edwardkay @tommoor Hi Alex, good answer. Any chance (technically) you could offer a "premium" version that would have a monthly fee instead of granting you license to our data? I was an early and fanatical rapportive user and have been yearning for rapportive+, so I'm really excited to learn about Connect. I hope you can find a balance between functionality and permissions that makes business sense for Clearbit and privacy sense for customers. Looking forward to future developments...

@tnewbold on their pricing page it shows that soon they will offer a $50/month option where you don't need to share your contacts

@tommoor @maccaw Good question. Answer? :)

Rapportive was useful. Clearbit Connect is really really useful. Finding any business email address feels like magic. If you aren't using this yet, get on it! It's worth it.
