Hey everyone — I'm Sebastian, the solo developer behind BUDGT.
I launched this app in 2013 when I was a student who couldn't figure out if I could afford lunch without doing mental math about rent and bills. The idea was simple: take your monthly budget, divide by the days in the month, and show one number — what you can spend today.
13 years later, the core idea hasn't changed. But the app needed to.
The original Objective-C codebase had served me well, but adding new features meant fighting old architecture at every turn. Users had been asking for analytics and category budgets for years, and I kept hitting walls. So I made the call to rebuild from scratch in Flutter.
The scariest part was the data migration — thousands of users with years of expense history, and I had to move every record without losing a single entry. That took more time than any other part of the rebuild.
