Our founding team includes award-winning filmmakers who've lived the reality of the traditional system, watching talented creators get exploited while studios and distributors capture most of the value. Hollywood takes 85% of theatrical revenue. Streaming platforms pay fractions of a cent per view. Independent filmmakers fund their own work, then hand over distribution rights and watch someone else profit.
We knew there had to be a better way.
What problem are we solving?
Filmmakers are locked out of the economics of their own work. They don't own distribution. They don't share in long-term revenue. They're disposable labor in a system designed to extract value from their creativity.
BlockReel is building the infrastructure for filmmakers to own the entire pipeline from discovery to production to distribution. An 80/20 split, with creators keeping 80% and 20% going to a DAO treasury that reinvests in future productions. A closed-loop creator economy. Decentralized A24.
How did our process evolve during this launch?
Honestly? It didn't pivot; we built exactly what we set out to build. The vision was always a full-stack creator economy: Festival for talent discovery, Studio Nodes for decentralized production, Streaming with fair payouts, a DAO Treasury that funds the next generation of films, and a Marketplace connecting the community.
In 6 weeks, we shipped a live platform on Solana mainnet: a dual-payment marketplace (Stripe + USDC), a Verified Filmmaker program, real-time chat, a job board, collaboration tools, a film festival submission system, and Founder NFT minting. The challenge wasn't figuring out what to build; it was building it fast enough to meet the deadlines of the Hackathons we are competing in.
