Here's an experiment we're running: Backchannel references as a service → Pay money, get a reference. → Give a reference, get paid (as long as your reference is desired) (If you're seeking a reference, you only pay if we find you someone you want to talk to.) The first experimental product that solves this problem: https://twitter.com/eriktorenber... Open to feedback!

@eriktorenberg very interesting concept / experiment. Do you plan to publish your results and findings in a blog post / study?

@eriktorenberg super important problem and the most critical part of hiring. Love it!

The bounty model is clever. I'm curious if people are willing to pay enough for references, especially if they expect to be able to reach references for free by searching LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. I suppose it depends on who you're targeting – growth stage investors, PE firms, hedge funds, etc. pay a ton of money for AlphaSights, GLG, Tegus, etc.

Very interesting concept - I'm just wondering: Why do you want to build a completely new platform instead of just connecting to / building on top of LinkedIn? Because imo the key for a working referral platform is that everyone you want a Referral to/from is on there. T hat's already given for linkedIn so maybe you can find a way to leverage that?

@lrueger can't agree more. I'd say Pay money to get a reference is somewhat like Pay2Win games, and getting paid to give references might lead to extra nice or random references. Sometimes Linkedin testimonials sound a bit fake so it'd be nice to double down on reference verification. I believe this could be a business of strong network effects if executed right. Super interesting concept!

@alvarovillalb_ Exactly. The Makers need to make sure that more money never leads to more/better referrals. The quality and trust of the referrals must always be top priority and the revenue for the platform needs to be collected in some other way - let it be a subscription plan, Ads or some other way. @eriktorenberg I think this is pretty important for your strategic product planning
