August's offerings are like Tesla entering the car market: all the things, connected to a centralized system. I wonder if this is the pattern most IoT companies will follow?

@chrismessina I don't see why not. From a dev perspective, it helps in building products on one "platform". From a marketing perspective, it can help build brand loyalty. Create awesome products that people love, create an ecosystem people love using, and then people become loyal to the brand.

@gregbarbosa sure. It's just like — I hope there's a way for customers to migrate to other platforms in the event of a sale/shutdown/pivot/etc. I mean, if your IoT door lock company suddenly capsizes??

@chrismessina Agreed. This reminds me of when Nest servers had issues a few weeks back and thermostats, smoke detectors, and cameras (many used as baby monitors) were all taken offline. It's very scary, and I had hopes HomeKit would help out as a central point but I'm not sure that's the case any longer.

You should figure out a way to connect this to smartwatches. Would love to immediately see who's at the door when the bell rings and I'm in the attic.
