I'm Felipe, co-founder of amrap. I left dentistry to become a personal trainer because the gym genuinely helped my mental and physical health during those years. I built a coaching business online and in person, and the results were real. Clients gained confidence, got stronger, and stuck with it.
But I could only coach about 30 people a month. And I kept running into the same frustrations: repeating the same guidance to clients every week, making them wait for answers they needed on the spot, and watching the gap between what in-person and online coaching could each deliver. On top of that, I saw other people kept showing up to the gym only to spend half their workout guessing what to do. Why should quality coaching only be available to the few who can afford it?
We actually started by building a physical training machine with cameras for gyms. Set up a lab in a WeWork, ran dozens of user tests. Biggest lesson: people didn't need another machine. They needed someone telling them what to do next — seamlessly, with the right guidance at the right time (in real time), adapting everything from exercises to weights as things change.
So we scrapped the hardware and went all-in on software. That became Amrap. You just talk to it, say what you want, and it builds or adjusts your workout instantly. During your session, it handles weight adjustments, machine swaps, pain modifications, all of it. We spent last year testing prototypes with beta testers and finally have a v1 of this vision.
