Smart kitchen app to cut waste, save money, eat better

Alimio is an AI powered kitchen companion that helps you waste less food, save money and eat healthier. Scan or tell Alimio what you bought and it tracks your food, remembers expiry dates and alerts you before things go off. It suggests recipes and meal plans based on what you already have, with calorie targets, dietary preferences and a smart shopping list so you only buy what you need. A dashboard shows how many items you used in time, how much you saved and your environmental impact.

Hey everyone, I am Andrei, the developer behind Alimio. I built this after getting annoyed at how often I would find forgotten food at the back of the fridge. Between work and life I did not have the mental energy to track expiry dates in my head or in a spreadsheet, so I started experimenting with a small tool for myself that turned into Alimio. Alimio is meant to be a low friction kitchen helper, not another thing you have to maintain. The core is simple expiry tracking, with AI on top to handle the boring parts. You can scan labels, talk through what you bought, and get nudges before things go off, plus recipes that use what is expiring first. If you try it, I would love to hear: Does the value make sense from the first few minutes in the app How the free vs Plus split feels in real use, since every AI call has a real cost on my side Thanks a lot for checking it out, I will be here during the day answering questions about the product, the tech and the business side.

Quick update on Alimio: we just shipped a new feature for households that do not want to scan everything twice.

Now only one person needs to scan the groceries. You can then share your full inventory with a partner or family member using a simple code.

How it works:

On the main account, go to Settings → Share inventory and copy the code.

On your partner or family device, open Alimio, go to Settings → Import inventory and paste the code.

All products appear on their side so everyone sees the same fridge, freezer and pantry items.

If they already have items in the app, they can choose to merge with their existing inventory or replace it.

This should make Alimio much easier to use as a shared kitchen companion for couples, flatmates and families. If you try it at home, I would love to hear how the flow feels and what you would improve next.

Quick update on Alimio: we shipped 4 new features to make food tracking even easier.

1. Multi-Item Photo Scanning

No more photographing one item at a time. Snap your entire grocery haul in one photo and we'll extract every product. Got 3 chicken packs? We count them as 3 separate items with their own expiry dates.

2. Recipe Category Images

Recipes now feature beautiful food photography headers. 17 categories from breakfast to pizza, auto-assigned by AI. Makes browsing your saved recipes much more appetizing.

3. Live Household Sync (Plus)

The previous share feature used temporary codes. Now Plus users get real-time sync - create a household, invite family with a 6-digit code, and everyone sees the same fridge. Free users can join too. Every item shows who added it.

4. Expired Items Check

The app now asks about expired items when you open it. Quick taps to mark each as "Used" or "Wasted" - helps us track actual waste more accurately than guessing.

Also added shopping day reminders. Pick your weekly shopping days and get a gentle nudge at 2pm.

If you're using the household sync with your partner or flatmates, I'd love to hear how the experience feels. Does the sync speed feel instant enough? Any friction points?
