Hi everyone!

This is a fascinating project from Google DeepMind, using AI to help restore damaged ancient inscriptions. It reminds me of the curiosity I've had since I was a kid for piecing together the past. While I was more into archaeology, the core challenge of interpreting fragmentary evidence like this is what's so compelling.

I know that AI-assisted inferences can't be used as definitive historical evidence, but a tool like Aeneas provides an incredibly important direction for interpretation, helping historians see new connections in fragmentary texts.

Perhaps this all points to an age-old truth: we restore the past to better predict the future.

Finally, a great use of AI in academic and scientific research. This is how it should be used: medicine, understanding history, and through it, how the world works. (I hope that the knowledge gained will lead to many historical documentaries, which I would love to see. As usual.) :)

Restoring lost history with AI? That’s wild, tbh. Being able to date and place ancient scraps is gamechanging for researchers. DeepMind team just keeps leveling up, fr.

Sound great!Does it support other languages? As far as I know, China's oracle bone script (pictographs) is also in urgent need of deciphering, and there are even rewards of thousands of US dollars for deciphering a single character.

Restoring ancient texts with AI is next-level smart—connecting old fragments with context is just genius, tbh. DeepMind folks are on another level, fr!

Congratulations on this groundbreaking AI! Unlocking lost pieces of history doesn’t just help specialists, but also connects curious people like me with the wonders of the ancient world
