here’s my Mexican horror story 🇲🇽

Back when I was applying for my U.S. student visa, I showed up super early, wearing my most serious "I-promise-I'm-not-going-to-stay-illegally-there" outfit. I had printed every possible document: bank statements, acceptance letters, proof I was returning to Mexico, pictures of my family, lol. OMG I feel so ashamed.

I walked up to the window... heart pounding... the officer barely looked up.

He just asked:

“Why are you going to the US?”

I panicked. My mind went blank. I had rehearsed all the story about how I decided to study at UChicago, all bout nerd economics. Instead I blurted out:

“Because… I love Michelle Obama.” I was not lying. 😅

He raised an eyebrow and told me to wait.

I sat there for one hour thinking my visa dreams were over. Panic. Frustation. Hungry. Delusional.

I got approved. I realized: I need better prep tools.
