Background: Why I Built Kidemi
My son’s at that stage where he’s curious about everything.

A few weeks ago, I let him use Google and ChatGPT to help with a school project, but the answers were often too complicated for him to understand, not always age-appropriate, and full of distractions that pulled him off track.

So I built Kidemi: an AI tool that is simple, safe, and made for kids like him to explore without getting overwhelmed.

What Makes Kidemi Different

• [Future Development] Curated knowledge base to only show and summarize from vetted contents like encyclopedia or learning platforms to make sure it has reliable information. Kids can’t easily separate facts from fake yet, so having reliable information is a must.

• We also encourages critical thinking. Instead of giving straight answers, it sometimes asks guiding questions to help kids think deeper.

• If a conversation touches on unsafe topics, we gently redirect it into a positive, age-appropriate path.

✏️ A small note:

I know giving AI to kids raises important concerns — and I feel the same way as a parent. This is still a work in progress, I’m learning too and still closely monitoring the usage.

But I believe AI can still be a helpful tool (if they are regulated and curated), especially for kids who love to search, ask questions, and explore on their own.

I feel like this is similar to Uber or Airbnb when it first came, we would never think about getting inside a stranger’s car or stay the night at someone's couch. But with the right safeguards, they became valuable tools that helped people in new ways.
