I built Caret because I wanted the power of Cursor without the overhead of Electron, vendor lock-in, or unnecessary resource usage. I wanted a fast, memory-efficient, open-source AI editor that gives developers control over their models, data, and workflow.
Caret combines agentic coding, intelligent autocomplete, code review, and multi-model routing in a Rust-powered editor. You can bring your own API keys, use existing coding-agent subscriptions through ACP, or run entirely locally with Ollama.
I'd love feedback on three things: performance and memory usage, the agent and autocomplete experience, and which features would make Caret a compelling daily driver. Bug reports, feature requests, and contributions are all welcome!
