Ever sat down at The Cheesecake Factory and been handed the menu? 331 items. You flip through it, get nowhere, and order the same thing as last time. What to Order works the other way around. Tell it what you’re in the mood for and it checks every dish on the menu for you. “Spicy” works. “Spicy vegetarian” too. Ask for “Thanksgiving dinner for 2” and you get a whole order, pumpkin cheesecake included. We have 7 US chains so far. Eating somewhere else? Snap a photo of the menu. It’s free.

TypeSafe’s Jev just came out, and I was looking for a project to try it on and see how we could use it to evaluate complex queries. I was inspired by the emoji-sorting demo that came out a few days ago, and I thought about another kind of content we could easily sort with Jev: restaurant menus. So let’s make those multi-page diner menus easier to navigate. Just say what you’re in the mood for, and it finds the food that matches. It even works with the restaurant around the corner. Just snap a picture of their menu. Maybe one day restaurants will have their own page and keep their menu up to date automatically :) Which other diner or fast-food chain should I add?
