Hi Product Hunt, I'm Baptiste, one of the two people behind Capacity. We built Capacity Desktop because we were tired of paying twice for the same AI. Most app builders run in the cloud, resell Claude or GPT as credits at a markup, and keep your project on their servers. If you already pay $20 a month for Claude or ChatGPT, that is a strange deal. Capacity Desktop is a Mac app. You describe what you want, it builds a real web, mobile or desktop app, and the project lives in a normal folder on your computer, pushed to your own GitHub. Your code and specs never go through our servers. Four things I'd like you to try: • Sign in with Claude or ChatGPT. Approve the sign-in in your browser and your existing plan powers the builder. No API key, no second bill. The Claude option runs through Anthropic's official Claude Code app, and Capacity walks you through installing it. Your plan's normal limits apply, and a usage panel shows how much of it is left before it interrupts you. If you prefer, paste an API key, or point Capacity at Ollama and run a model on your own machine. • Start from a complete app. New project offers two finished apps today: a CRM with contacts, companies, deals and pipelines, built on the open-source Twenty, and Linktree Pro, a link-in-bio page with themes, analytics and QR codes. Pick one and Capacity downloads it, installs what it needs, runs it, and you change it by asking. You never open a terminal. For websites there are 80+ designer templates, and starters for mobile and desktop apps. • Put it on a server you own. The Publish tab sets up a server on your DigitalOcean account. You pick a region, a name and your domain, and about 25 minutes later the app is live on your domain with HTTPS. After that, Redeploy swaps in a new version without taking the site down, Roll back returns to any earlier build, and Debug with AI opens a chat that already has your logs. Simpler sites publish to Vercel, with your own domain. • Make the assets without leaving the app. The Assets tab generates images, video, music, sound effects and 3D models, and when the agent needs one for your app it proposes it right in the chat, with an editable prompt and the price on the button before anything runs. One fal.ai account covers all of them, billed at the provider's price. A draft image costs $0.003, so trying ten logo ideas is not a decision you have to think about. Also in there: every change is saved so you can undo anything, and you can click the thing you want changed instead of describing it. What it is not yet. It runs on macOS only, Apple Silicon and Intel. Windows and Linux are coming, and there is a waitlist on the download page. Own-server deploy supports DigitalOcean only for now. There are two complete apps, with more in the works. Pricing: free during beta. Download and start building. There is no subscription for the tool, and your AI is billed by your provider. Which app would you want as the next complete template? I'll be here all day.

Two of us spent weeks building an AI app builder with no credits to sell. Smart or stupid?

Hey PH We're Baptiste & Samuel, and next week we're launching Capacity Desktop a free Mac app that turns plain English into real apps, built and stored on your machine.

The bet everyone tells us is wrong: move away from credits system. You plug in your own Claude / GPT / Open Router key and pay your provider at cost. Our take is that you feel the credits system is unfair, you never know what a failed fix loop just cost you, and you feel the tool profits from your retries.
