Astra was the benchmark, not the runtime. I ran the pipeline on it through the Agents API to see what a good cut looks like when cost is not a constraint: eleven clips against a 22-beat reference, structure held, zero drift. That ceiling changed what I was willing to believe about my own numbers. A first cut cost $2.34 and I had assumed that was the price of intelligence. With Astra's output to compare against, it was obvious how much was waste. Three faults: prompt caching was computed and never read; contact sheets were oversized and re-read on every loop step; and I was paying a model to perceive what ffmpeg can measure exactly. That is the scope change. I was building something only a customer paying a lot could justify. Cutting the cost twenty-fold is what let me price a reel as an impulse buy, which is a different product in a different market.
