What inspired this: The idea started back at [Cornell], when I was [tutoring undergrads / helping my younger sibling / TAing calc]. I kept seeing the same pattern — students would snap a photo, get an answer, and still have no idea why. They'd fly through the homework and then bomb the exam. The tools to hand out answers already existed. Nothing actually helped you understand. The problem we're solving: Most math solvers are just calculators with a camera. You get a final number, maybe a thin step or two, and you're alone for the rest. We wanted something closer to a patient tutor — one that walks every step, explains the reasoning in plain English, lets you ask "why did you do that?" — and then helps you remember the ones you got wrong. How it evolved: We shipped with just photo → step-by-step. The #1 request was "can it graph this so I can actually see it?" — so we built the interactive grapher. Then students said they kept losing the problems they'd struggled with, so we added a mistake notebook for spaced review. Somewhere along the way it stopped being a solver and became a study buddy.
