I built Chronicle because every AI writing tool I tried had the same problem: the moment a novel got past ~30,000 words, the model started forgetting things it wrote itself two chapters ago, a character's eye colour, a promise made in chapter 3, a plot thread that was supposed to pay off.
Chronicle fixes that by keeping a real "story bible", characters, locations, relationships, plot threads, timeline and feeding the whole thing into every single AI call, not just whatever fits in the context window. So a hundred thousand words in, it still remembers.
The other thing that mattered to me 'dependency on another online service' : Chronicle runs locally on your own machine, on your own local model (LM Studio or Ollama) — no cloud, no subscription, no account, no manuscript ever leaving your computer. That was non-negotiable for me as a writer; I didn't want some start-up owning a copy of my unfinished work.
Chronicle is currently still in a small free beta, testers keep their copy and get free updates forever regardless of what launch pricing ends up being.
I would genuinely love feedback from anyone here who's tried AI writing tools and hit the same "it forgot what it already wrote" wall. Did you find a workaround, or just give up and go back to plain drafting?
