Every blocker just says NO. You tap "ignore," feel nothing, scroll anyway. Pip makes the friction emotional: to open Instagram during a blocked window you hold a button for 1.8 seconds — and a creature wilts in real time. Her sprout droops, the colour drains. Let go early and she springs back. Real blocking via Apple's Screen Time API. You pick your own apps, and iOS only ever hands us opaque tokens — no account, no servers, nothing leaves your phone.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Pip because every screen-time app I tried failed the same way: it says NO, you tap "ignore," and nothing happens. There's no moment where the choice costs you anything.
So I made the friction emotional instead of administrative.
When you reach for a blocked app, you don't get a wall — you get Pip. To bypass her you have to physically hold a button for 1.8 seconds, and while you hold it she wilts in real time: her sprout droops, her smile inverts, the whole screen desaturates, and the haptics fade out like a heartbeat. Let go early and she springs back with a bounce. Stay with her and she grows a petal.
On the "for girls" part, since it always comes up: that's the actual product thesis. This entire category — Opal, Brick, One Sec — is built on discipline and lockdown. Meanwhile the apps women genuinely pay for, like Finch and Flo, run on nurture and identity. Nobody had built a blocker in that register. (Anyone can use it.)
A few things under the hood:
• Real blocking through Apple's Screen Time API (FamilyControls) — not a fake timer
• iOS never tells us which apps you have. We only ever receive opaque tokens, so your app list is genuinely private
• No account, no servers, no analytics — nothing leaves your phone
• A home screen widget where she visibly wilts if you neglect her
• Six calming mini-games for when the scroll urge hits
It took 4 App Store rejections to get here. Happy to answer anything about building on the Screen Time APIs — they're painful and barely documented.
One thing I'd genuinely love your take on: is guilt a fair mechanic? Pip wilting *works* — it stopped me scrolling in testing — but I go back and forth on whether I built something kind or something manipulative. Where's the line?
