how does the paywall handle users who hit the usage limit mid-conversation, do they get cut off or get a graceful response from the bot?

When a user hits the monthly limit (5 free messages), they don’t get cut off mid-response.
The backend checks the limit before calling OpenAI. If the limit is reached, it returns a clean LIMIT_REACHED response.
On the frontend:
The user sees a friendly paywall modal explaining they’ve used 5/5 messages
The input field shows “Limit reached (5/5) — resets on [date]”
Their last message and conversation history are preserved
They can still read previous messages and are gently encouraged to upgrade for unlimited access.
The message is fully customizable in the code.
The Three.js robot is a fun touch that elevates this beyond a typical boilerplate, and bundling the paywall logic with persistent history shows real thought for shipping an actual product instead of just a demo.
