Neverwrite is a local-first, multi-pane Markdown workspace for working side by side with AI agents. Unlike black-box agent tools, it includes an AI review layer and action log so every change can be inspected. It supports PDFs, images, CSVs, HTML, Excalidraw maps, wiki links, and existing Obsidian vaults, while keeping your files yours.
Hey Product Hunt!
I built **NeverWrite** because I wanted a workspace where AI agents could help me with knowledge work without turning the whole process into a black box.
I spend a lot of time reading documentation, studying papers, taking notes, connecting ideas, and building “second brains”. I wanted agents to work alongside me, but I also wanted to stay in control of what they changed. That’s why NeverWrite has a multi-pane Markdown workspace, an AI review layer, and an action log, so changes from agents can be inspected, accepted, rejected, and rebased instead of silently applied.
It’s local-first and file-centric: no proprietary file system, no lock-in, and your files stay yours. You can open existing Obsidian vaults, use wiki links, work with Markdown, PDFs, images, CSVs, HTML, and even Excalidraw maps. Agents are surprisingly good at generating concept maps and dashboards, which ended up becoming one of my favorite use cases.
I built this mostly because I couldn’t find the exact tool I wanted, so I decided to make it myself and release it for free.
I’d love to hear what you think, what feels useful, what feels confusing, and what features you’d want next.
