AI bill tracker that fights Dutch debt escalation

PayWatch gives you a clear picture of your finances. It pulls together your bills, tracks your total debt, shows which government benefits you qualify for, and flags subscriptions you might not need. When a confusing letter arrives, scan it with your camera or forward it from email. The AI explains what it says in plain language. Need more help? Call PayBuddy, our voice agent.

Hey Product Hunt! I'm Samba, CTO and co-founder of PayWatch. Building this with Mariama from Rotterdam, Netherlands.
A lot of people don't have a clear picture of their financial situation. Bills come in from different places, letters pile up, and it's hard to know what to pay first, what you actually owe in total, or what help you might be entitled to. We built PayWatch to fix that.
What the app does:
Financial overview: You see everything in one place. Total debt, bills sorted by urgency, what's overdue, what's coming up. The app calculates your disposable income based on your earnings, fixed expenses, and open bills so you always know what you have left to spend.
Prioritization: Not all debt is equal. A bill from a collection agency has different consequences than an electricity reminder. PayWatch tracks five escalation stages and helps you figure out what to pay first based on urgency and legal risk.
Government benefits check: In the Netherlands there are multiple benefits programs (toeslagen) that many people don't realize they qualify for. The app runs a calculator based on your income and household situation and shows what you could be receiving.
Subscription audit: The app flags recurring payments and subscriptions so you can spot the ones you forgot about or don't use anymore.
Scan and understand letters: When you get a letter in the mail and you're not sure what it means, point your camera at it. The AI reads it and explains what it says, what stage it's at, and what your options are. Same thing works for email. Connect your Gmail or Outlook and the app scans for bills automatically.
PayBuddy (voice AI agent): This is the part I'm most proud of. You can call PayBuddy from the app and just talk. It's not a phone tree or a scripted bot. It has live access to your financial data and real tools. During the call it can pull up your overview, help you decide what to prioritize, add a bill you mention, open your camera to scan a document, check if a collection agency is charging you more than legally allowed, draft a dispute letter, or look up free debt counseling near you. Everything happens in the conversation.
Bank connection: Connect your bank account via PSD2 open banking. Transactions sync automatically and get matched against your open bills. You get a card asking "is this a payment for X?" and one tap marks it as paid. The categorization runs through three layers: internal transfer detection, Dutch keyword rules, then Mistral AI for anything it can't classify.
The tech choices we made and why:
Document scanning runs on Mistral Small 3.2 Vision, hosted on our own Scaleway instance in the EU. Our users scan debt letters, invoices, and collection notices. We didn't want that data going through US infrastructure, so we self-host the vision model on European servers we control.
Voice runs on ElevenLabs Conversational AI. We use WebSocket on iOS for stability in WKWebView and WebRTC on desktop for lower latency. The system prompt rebuilds on every call with the user's actual financial context so PayBuddy already knows your situation before you say anything.
Text chat uses Claude Haiku. Bank sync uses Enable Banking's PSD2 API. Backend is Supabase with Postgres and Row Level Security. Frontend is Next.js 16 with React 19 and Capacitor 8 for the iOS wrapper. Deployed on Vercel in London, close to our database in Ireland.
We also built a 270-agency detection database from the Dutch justice department registry so the app can automatically identify collection agencies when they appear on a letter or in your transactions.
We're live in the Netherlands, in the App Store and as a PWA. Would love feedback from anyone working on fintech, agentic AI, or personal finance tools.
