Nova was inspired by a simple idea: AI should feel present — not distant. Most AI systems exist behind screens or in the cloud, lacking any real sense of physical presence or continuity. We set out to explore what happens when intelligence is given a body — something that can exist with you, respond in real time, and feel consistent over time. Nova is the result of that exploration — a system designed to bring intelligence closer, both physically and experientially. Modern AI is powerful, but often disconnected. It relies heavily on cloud infrastructure, introduces latency, raises privacy concerns, and lacks a sense of physical presence. Interactions can feel transactional rather than continuous or meaningful. Nova addresses these challenges by: running locally, reducing reliance on the cloud enabling real-time interaction and motion providing a consistent, embodied presence supporting ownership, privacy, and long-term use The goal is to move from tools you use to systems you experience. Our design philosophy Nova was designed as a unified system — where hardware and software are developed together, not separately. Every decision was guided by a few core principles: Presence over simulation Nova does not attempt to imitate humans. Instead, it focuses on creating a clear and consistent sense of presence. Local-first architecture Nova’s intelligence runs within the device, prioritising speed, privacy, and ownership. Modularity and openness The system is designed to be adaptable — with interchangeable components, open platform support, and publicly available STL files for repair, modification, and self-build. Function with intention From motion to interaction, every element serves a purpose — avoiding unnecessary complexity while maintaining capability.
