I built this because I was stuck in "Tutorial Hell."
If you’ve ever tried to learn something new on YouTube, you know the feeling: you’re watching a great video, but the speaker uses a word or a concept you’ve never heard of. To understand the first video, I’d find myself pausing every two minutes to ask an AI or Google in another tab what a specific word meant.
Every time I did that, I lost my focus. I was watching videos but not actually learning anything.
I realized the problem wasn't the content—it was the context.
Gloss is a simple browser extension that acts like a learning assistant. It looks at the video with you and predicts which words, concepts, or acronyms might be confusing. It then shows a short, simple explanation right on top of the video to fill in those knowledge gaps. It’s "context engineering" for your brain so you don't have to search for context yourself every time.
Why I made it this way:
No more pausing: No more pausing to Google terms; get the answer without leaving the tab.
Simple explanations: It uses simple words so you don’t have to get an "explanation of the explanation" haha.
Works where you are: It’s available for Chrome, Arc, Edge, Brave and Opera and works on any YouTube video.
A quick note on the AI: The system I use is very good, but it can still make mistakes. I’ve added a web-search feature to help it stay accurate, but please use your best judgment!
