Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I’m Ahmad, and I built ItemTracker to solve a very real problem in my household. The Problem: After we moved to a new house the mental load of tracking everything was exhausting. Then my wife or kids will put something somewhere else and I will spend a lot of time finding it. I am talking about infrequently used household items like holiday decorations, camping stuff, etc. Why I Built This: I come from a computer science background, but I had zero hands-on Swift knowledge. I wanted to learn iOS development AND solve this actual pain point my family was experiencing. So I turned to Claude AI to help me write the code. Honestly, Claude became my Swift mentor. I’d describe what I wanted to build, Claude would write the code, explain the patterns, and help me understand SwiftUI, CloudKit, and iOS development. It’s been an incredible learning journey - going from zero Swift knowledge to shipping a production app. AI-First Vision: In the modern AI era, I believed home organization should also be helped by AI. That’s why I integrated Apple Foundation Models to power natural language search and predictive calendar recommendations. The AI can find items based on descriptions (“red tool for tightening screws”) and automatically suggest relevant items for upcoming events. Add “fence installation project” to your calendar, and it knows you’ll need your post hole digger, level, and measuring tape. The Architecture Decision: One of the best choices I made was using CloudKit. There’s literally no backend to maintain. Everything syncs through users’ personal iCloud accounts. No servers, no databases to manage, no scaling concerns. It’s pure iOS + iCloud + on-device AI, which also means incredible privacy - I never see anyone’s data, ever. All AI processing happens on your device. What I Learned: Building with AI assistance isn’t about replacing developers - it’s about making development accessible to people with ideas and domain knowledge who want to solve real problems. I understand the CS fundamentals, but Claude helped me navigate the Swift ecosystem, iOS patterns, and Apple’s frameworks. What’s Next: I’m actively developing based on user feedback. If you try it and have ideas, I’d love to hear them! Thanks for checking it out! 🙌
