Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I built LINE AutoTranslate after experiencing the same frustration over and over: being in group chats where friends or colleagues speak different languages, and watching conversations die because people couldn't understand each other. Living in Thailand, I'm constantly in LINE groups with Thais, Burmese, Japanese expats, Chinese colleagues, and English/French/German speakers - sometimes many in the same chat. The usual workflow was painful: copy message → switch to Google Translate → paste → translate → copy again → switch back → paste → send → repeat. Nobody actually does that. Any existing translators (like the popular EN-TH Translator) I tried were subpar at best, especially with Thai. So I built an AI-powered bot that just sits in the group and translates everything automatically and accurately, with natural language and sensible translations. No extra steps, no switching apps. **The journey from "it kind of works" to "it works really well":** I initially built this for myself - essentially a simple ChatGPT wrapper at first. But when friends started asking for access, I realized this could help a lot more people. So I rebuilt it from scratch into a proper, scalable production system with enterprise-grade security and privacy. Early versions had a problem: translations were accurate but too slow. Group chats move fast - nobody wants to wait 3-5 seconds for every message. This led me down a rabbit hole of A/B testing different models until I landed on a smart routing system: simple messages go to fast, lightweight models, complex slang-heavy messages go to more powerful reasoning ones for better context understanding. Language pair matters too—Thai↔Japanese needs different handling than English↔Spanish. Now the bot uses a combination of up to 15 different AI models. **What started simple got interesting fast:** - Text translation was v1, but then users asked "what about voice messages?" → added Groq Whisper for near-instant transcription - Then "what about Thai menus?" → added image OCR with Gemini Vision - Later "what about groups with several languages?" → added support for up to 4 languages at once - Biggest challenge: typos, poor sentence structure & slang/idioms, gender particles. An example: "555" means "hahaha" or "lol" in Thai (5 = "ha"). Getting AI to handle casual speech took a lot of prompt engineering. Also, Thai uses different gender particles for male & female speakers. LINE doesn't pass a user's gender, so I had to get creative! - Bonus points: LINE has pretty strict terms of service, and Thailand has VERY strict lese majeste laws, so I had to add another smart moderation layer on top. If a message is flagged by moderation, the bot will not translate it. Oh... and then I also added an AI-powered customer support agent! (@autotranslatesupport) What was initially a weekend project became a very different animal over time. The bot now handles 33 languages and already processes thousands of translations daily. Would love your feedback - especially if you're in multilingual communities. What languages should I prioritize next? What other features would be valuable for your use case?
